Joy by Kyle H. Peters is a short, musically expressive work designed to introduce students to four-mallet technique. Repetition is utilized to allow the player to focus on technique and making music quickly.
Like the other pieces in Peters’ Five Miniatures for Marimba, Joy is designed to be playable using either three or four mallets on a standard 4.3-octave (low A) marimba. Players are encouraged to perform the piece while holding four mallets, but holding three might be helpful for those just starting out with the technique.
