Motion No. 3, third in a series of works for percussion duo by Nicholas Hall, continues the goal of the series of challenging two performers to act as a single voice.
With a series of glass bottles, two China cymbals, and a shared mounted kick drum, the performers create a sense of the bump and grind of busy city life. The combination of found objects and pieces of a drumset helps to convey impressions of a subway train, passing traffic, nearby street performers, et cetera. The players share melodies via the glass bottle sets while simultaneously playing a hocket groove derived from various styles of rock and funk drum beats that drives the piece from start to finish.
Motion No. 3 ships as a fully bound score and includes individual parts in PDF format for either printing or tablet viewing.
• Kick drum (mounted)
• 6 Glass bottles (or other found instruments)
• 2 China cymbals (large and small)
