Red’s Rhumba Redux by Colin McNutt is a reimagined version of his original, which was written for the 1993 Star of Indiana Drumline (also found in The Vacant Lot Sessions).
In this updated version written for the 2021 Boston Crusaders, McNutt wanted the members of the Crusaders drumline to feel the adrenaline and excitement that came from a complex, aggressive, purely battery-driven composition akin to Murray Gusseck’s famous Martian Mambo. He achieves the desired effect brilliantly by weaving rudimental figures through ever-changing time signatures, intricate groove patterns, complex hocket textures, and an overall vertigo-inducing effect!
• Marching snare drums
• Marching tenors (quints)
• Marching bass drums (5)
