Of Light is the first prize winner in the 2016 call for scores sponsored by the Portland Percussion Group. Composer Mason Lee aurally depicts the colors of the rainbow, giving each color a distinct harmony and motive. The piece is written for four players to share two 5-octave marimbas.
Repetitive, pattern-based lines constantly interweave with one another in close counterpoint to create a tightly-woven fabric of sound! Players will require a strong foundation in chamber listening situations, and a solid sense of groove is paramount, resulting in a fresh experience within the repertoire for percussion quartet.
