Description

Bobby Lopez brings some Spanish flair to our catalog with his wonderful arrangement of late nineteenth century composer G. Giménez y Bellido’s La Boda de Luís Alónso (The Wedding of Luís Alónso).

As Lopez explains in the program notes, the Spanish zarzuela was a “…court-based musical play with choruses and alternating spoken lines that evolved into comic opera. La Boda was one of Giménez’s most famous works and has been arranged for many different ensembles including the Mexican mariachi ensemble.”

This is an energetic work, full of sweeping melodic lines and light, fast-moving bass lines. True to form, the piece has plenty of dramatic and comedic flair, while the 3/4 feel (”in one”) will test the ensemble’s listening and grooving skills in the way that only pieces in this style can.

At 4 minutes in length, La Boda would make for a fantastic closer for your next percussion ensemble concert!
