Reviews
The pieces in the book range from standard march tempo to some reaching as high as quarter note equals 200. Each piece is in common time with the exception of two grooves, one in cut time and one in 9/8. The book fills a need, especially for schools that may not have a percussion instructor. The pieces are short and easy enough for a competent group of students to learn them on their own, if needed. Every one of the grooves also contains repeats to allow for shorter or longer playing depending on how the time out or the pause in the football game is going.
This collection is sure to give the drumline more material to play that is easily accessible to high school and collegiate lines. The music written has some very interesting grooves to them, and is sure to be catchy during the game. The purpose of the book is not to provide difficult drumline music, but instead to offer simple and fun stuff for lines to play in the stands, and Altmire achieved that goal. I look forward to hearing these tunes on Friday and Saturday nights!
